Art Deco is the most recognizable period in jewelry history, and the one most often imitated. Between roughly 1920 and 1935 the trade moved away from the soft garlands of the Edwardian years toward geometry: straight lines, stepped shoulders, calibré-cut stones set edge to edge, black onyx against white diamond, and platinum worked so finely that the metal almost disappears. The result reads as modern on the hand a century later, which is why it remains the era Americans ask us for most.

About art deco
Art Deco (roughly 1920 to 1935) is geometry, contrast and platinum: stepped shoulders, calibré-cut colored stones, crisp millegrain and old European cut centers.
Every piece here is checked at our own bench before it goes online: metal karat tested, marks read under magnification, stones and settings examined, and condition described as we find it. Anything we cannot verify is left as not specified rather than guessed, and we will show you any piece live on video before you buy.

Where a piece was made later in the taste of the period, the product record says so plainly, and anything our atelier makes new is kept out of this collection entirely.
We have been buying and restoring period jewelry in the Netherlands since 1973. Every Deco piece is examined at our own bench before it is listed: the platinum or white gold is tested, the millegrain and the gallery are checked for later repair, and the diamonds are assessed under magnification by our gemologist, a GIA Graduate Gemologist (GG), including whether the cuts match the period. Anything we cannot establish is left blank rather than guessed.
Look for platinum or white gold rather than yellow, hand-cut stones — old European, transitional, single and calibré cuts — rather than modern brilliants, millegrain edging, and a symmetry that is architectural rather than floral. Later reproductions usually give themselves away in the stones: modern brilliant cuts in an otherwise period setting mean the piece was made later or has been re-stoned.
The metal is tested and the hallmark read where one survives. Our goldsmith checks the shank, the claws, the box clasp and any earlier repair; our gemologist, a GIA Graduate Gemologist (GG), assesses the stones, their cuts and any treatment under magnification. Restoration and replaced stones are written into the condition report rather than quietly passed over.
