Our story

A Dutch family business since 1973

Vintage Jewelry is a specialist international vintage, antique and estate jewelry house based in the Netherlands. We source, authenticate, restore and sell one-of-a-kind vintage, antique, estate and designer jewelry, alongside our own newly handcrafted Atelier line. We buy pieces from Dutch and European families, restore them at our own bench and give them a new home. It is what we have done since 1973, and it is still the whole of what we do.

Today many of those pieces travel to the United States, which is why this store exists: the same collection, in dollars, with duties included and a person on the other end of a video call whenever you want to see something properly.

Vintage Jewelry is the American home of Vintage Jewellery — the same family jewelry house, established in the Netherlands in 1973. In Europe we use the British spelling, “Jewellery”; here in the US we simply use the American one.

How it began

Too beautiful to melt

Exceptional old jewelry began arriving through our family's gold-buying business. Some pieces were simply too beautifully made, too unusual or too historically interesting to melt down. We kept them, restored them and found them new owners. That became Vintage Jewelry.

That habit is still the engine of the collection. Jewelry comes in over a counter in the Netherlands, is assessed by our specialists, goes to our own bench for restoration, and leaves as a piece someone will wear for another lifetime.

Our story and people

A family business, and the people in it

We have been doing this since 1973, from four locations in the Netherlands. Around thirty colleagues buy, examine, restore, photograph and describe the jewelry you see here. When you book a private viewing, you are on a call with one of them — not a call center.

Our locations

A Dutch family jewelry business since 1973, with four locations in the Netherlands.

We are not an online-only dealer. You can walk into one of our boutiques, put a piece on your hand and talk to the same people who wrote its description. Monnickendam is different: it is our buying and sourcing center, where jewelry is bought, valued and assessed before it ever reaches a boutique.

Craftsmanship and trust

Our own goldsmiths, our own gemologist

Every piece is weighed, tested and hallmark-read before it is listed. Our in-house gemologist checks the stones and notes treatments, repairs and replaced settings in plain language. Where Dutch law requires it, a recognized Dutch assay office tests and stamps the metal standard. If something has been altered, we say so.

Restoration happens at our own atelier, not at a third party: our goldsmiths retip worn claws, rebuild shanks and repolish by hand. You get an authenticity and material guarantee with every purchase, plus a full year of warranty.

That same bench produces our own line, Atelier (Atelier Vintage Jewelry): newly made jewelry, hand crafted in vintage style by our own goldsmiths, for anyone who wants a new piece with a vintage soul or something designed entirely to order. Atelier pieces are labeled as newly handcrafted everywhere on this site. We never present a new piece as antique.

What clients say

We only publish reviews a real customer actually wrote. Our US review profile is being set up, so this space is reserved rather than filled with copy we made up. Reviews of our European store are written in Dutch; as we translate and verify them, they will appear here with their source and date.

For our customers in the United States

We show you the piece on video, before you decide

We are a Dutch company selling to the United States, so we bridge the distance the only honest way we know: a personal video call. One of our team takes the piece into daylight, turns it under the loupe, shows the wear, the hallmark and the inside of the shank, walks you around the store, and answers everything you want to ask. You see exactly what you are buying. There is no pressure and no obligation.
