What to look for

On a charm bracelet, look first at the link gauge and the clasp. A heavy curb or gate bracelet should close firmly, with a working safety chain if one was fitted. We check every jump ring, resolder anything weak at our own bench and note which charms came with the bracelet and which were added later.

What it costs

Pieces in this style generally sit between roughly $700 and $6,500, depending on age, metal and stone content.
