An antique engagement ring is one that is genuinely old — in our listings, made before roughly 1930, in the Georgian, Victorian, Edwardian or early Art Deco years. That matters more than style. A ring from those decades was cut and built by hand, set with old mine, rose or old European cut diamonds, and made one at a time by a jeweler who expected it to be worn for a lifetime.

About antique engagement rings
Antique means the ring is at least a century old: Georgian, Victorian, Edwardian or early Art Deco. Expect hand cut stones, closed backs, cut down settings and goldsmithing that machines cannot copy.
Check the hallmark and the wear together: an honest antique ring shows soft, even wear on the high points, original solder lines and a shank that has not been thinned. Ask to see the culet of any old-cut stone, the back of the setting and the gallery, all of which we will show you live on video before you buy.
Most antique and vintage engagement rings we sell sit between roughly $1,500 and $12,000, with signed pieces and larger old-cut centers running higher.

Explore AtelierBuying one is a different exercise from buying new. There is no identical second ring, so the decision is about a specific object: this shank, this setting, these stones, this history of wear and repair. We treat that seriously. Every ring goes across our bench first — the shank checked for thinning and earlier sizing, the claws and gallery checked for solder and replacement, the stones assessed under magnification by our gemologist, a GIA Graduate Gemologist (GG), including whether the cuts are consistent with the age of the mount.
What we cannot establish, we leave blank. We do not invent a date, an origin or a carat weight. Rings are shown in US sizes, resizing by our own goldsmith is free where the ring allows it, and every ring ships free and fully insured to the US with import duties included and 30 days to change your mind. You can see any ring live on a private video viewing before you decide.
Georgian (to 1837), Victorian (1837–1901), Edwardian (1901–1915) and early Art Deco (1920s). Anything later we describe as vintage rather than antique, and a modern signed ring is never called either. Each listing names the period and how we dated it.
Rose, old mine, transitional and old European cuts, cut by hand for candlelight. They glow rather than sparkle. Our gemologist assesses each stone in its mount and records what can honestly be established; grading numbers we cannot stand behind are left off.
Most antique rings can be resized, and our goldsmith does it free where the construction allows. Eternity bands, tension-set shanks and rings with engraved shoulders sometimes cannot be, and the listing says so before you buy rather than after.
