Our own line

Not every story starts a hundred years ago

Atelier is jewelry made today, by hand, at our bench in the Netherlands.

We work in the styles we have spent five decades restoring: the same proportions, the same techniques, the same warmth of worked gold, in a piece that has never been worn by anyone but you.

Made to your own design

Our goldsmiths also work to order. Bring us a drawing, a photograph of a piece you once saw, or a family ring you no longer wear, and we design something around it.

Atelier pieces are newly made and never sold as antique or vintage. Everything else in the collection is an authentic vintage or estate piece, and is labeled that way.

At the bench

How an Atelier piece is made

Four hands, one bench, roughly 6 to 8 weeks from drawing to finished piece.

01

The drawing

We start on paper: proportions, shoulder width, how the stone should sit on the hand. You see the drawing before anything is cut.

02

Wax and metal

The model is carved and cast in fresh 14K or 18K gold, or platinum. Nothing is bought in finished; the frame starts as raw metal at our bench.

03

The setting

Stones are cut for the frame they go in and set by hand, claw by claw, so the girdle sits level and the light comes through the back.

04

Finishing

Filed, emeried and polished by hand, hallmarked where required by Dutch law, then checked by our jewelry specialists in the Netherlands.

The stone box

Cut for the piece, not the other way round

We keep a working stone box at the bench: cabochons for signets, faceted stones for solitaires and cluster work. Pick a metal and a stone to read how it wears and which settings suit it. If the stone you want is not here, we source it and quote before we begin.

Metal

London Blue Topaz

Topaz · oval cut

From $320 as an indicative stone price

A deep, slightly steely blue that keeps its colour under warm indoor light. Topaz takes a crisp polish, so facet edges stay sharp.

Wearing it

Hard enough for regular wear. It can chip on a knock, so we set it with a little metal over the girdle.

Metals we suggest

  • 14K Yellow GoldOur standard for Atelier work: warm, hard wearing, easy to resize.

Settings that suit it

  • Grace — from $690
  • Marlene — from $1,040

Cool blue against warm yellow gold is the classic Deco contrast.

About the atelier

New pieces, made in a vintage manner

What Atelier Vintage Jewelry is

Atelier is the part of the house where we make rather than buy. Our goldsmiths work in the same workshop that restores the antique and estate pieces we sell, which is where the styling comes from: cut down claws, hand cut milgrain, signet faces made for a cabochon. The gold is new, the stones are chosen at the bench, and nothing here is presented as old.

Made to order, quoted first

Most Atelier work starts with a conversation. Bring a drawing, a photograph of a piece you once saw, or a family ring you no longer wear. We draw, quote and only then cast. You see the design and the price before any metal is cut, and the finished piece leaves with a description of exactly what it is.

Stones, metals and sizing

We keep a working stone box at the bench: cabochons for signets, faceted stones for solitaires and cluster work. Rings are made in US sizes, and most designs can be resized at our own bench afterwards. Where a stone is soft or porous we say so on the page rather than leave you to find out.

Atelier questions

Is Atelier jewelry vintage or antique?
No. Atelier pieces are newly made by our own goldsmiths in the Netherlands. They are made in a vintage manner, with hand finishing and period inspired detailing, but they are new and we label them that way everywhere on this site and on the paperwork.
How long does a made to order piece take?
Typical bench time is about 6 to 8 weeks, plus insured shipping. If a stone has to be sourced we tell you before you approve the quote.
Can I use my own stone or an heirloom ring?
Yes. We can set a stone you already own, or rework gold from a piece you no longer wear. Our goldsmith checks the stone at the bench first and tells you honestly whether it can be reset safely.
How do I choose a ring size?
Atelier rings are made to order in US sizes. Choose your size in the design preview, and if it is not right when it arrives we resize most designs at our own bench.
Do I get a price before work starts?
Always. You approve the design and the price first. Made to order work is invoiced only after you have seen the drawing and agreed the quote.
Can I speak to a goldsmith before I order?
Yes. Book a private viewing and you get about thirty minutes on video with one of our specialists, in your own time zone, with no obligation to buy.
Do you ship Atelier pieces to the United States?
Yes. Atelier pieces ship insured to the US, with the same 30 day return window and free insured return as the rest of the store.
